Health & Physical Education
In the health and physical education course of study students will explore topics related to good health and fitness practices. The range of courses includes topics in health, CPR, competitive sports, and lifetime fitness activities. The goal is to encourage students to achieve maximum personal health and maintain a regimen throughout life
Note: All students who receive credit for physical education must be assessed according to the new Ohio State Standards for Physical Education mandated by Senate Bill 210, signed into law in June, 2010.

Notes: Required of all ninth graders.
Course Description:
Instruction emphasizes life processes of the human body including the digestive, nervous, endocrine, excretory, and reproductive systems, diseases and disorders relating to each system, examination of the disease model associated with the use and abuse of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, basic first aid, and human sexuality.

Course Description:
Students will study CPR as it relates to emergency first aid for respiratory failure and cardiac arrest in victims of all ages. Topics include rescue breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, care for an obstructed airway, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Students will study first aid procedures for immediate care of victims of accidents or sudden illness. Procedures include assessment of the situation and victim, and appropriate action to take if medical aid is delayed or unavailable. Topics include sprains, fractures, bleeding, burns, and electric shock. Students will earn certification in CPR and First Aid.

Course Description:
This program will include a large number of team and individual activities. Instruction will include skills, tactics, and strategies for various sports, and basic fitness and training information. This will be accomplished through exciting activities that are fun for all.
Physical Education II

Course Description:
Students signing up for this course will be exposed to a number of lifetime activities that may include: archery, badminton, bowling, cornhole, weight training, Frisbee golf, paddle tennis, shuffleboard, table tennis, and tennis. Physical fitness testing will also be required of all students. The major emphasis of this course will be on lifetime fitness.

Notes: 1st semester is only offered for grades 10, 11, and 12. 2nd semester is for all students.
Course Description:
Students electing strength training will be exposed to various resistance programs, training techniques, and fitness principles. Students will be able to design their own program based on classroom experience and their own individual needs. Students electing strength training will be expected to challenge themselves to their maximum ability. This course may be chosen as an option in any year of the high school career.
