World Language
In the high school world language course of study, students will explore an integration of culture with the languages of French, Spanish, German, Latin, and Mandarin Chinese. A progressive study of world languages allows students to enjoy developing a variety of cultural, reading, listening, and speaking skills. World language students learn to communicate about themselves and the world around them.

World Language classes require a strong base in English grammar structures and a grade of "C" or better in English class.

Course Description:
Suggested for any college-bound student. This course does not conflict with the traditional Latin language course, but is designed to awaken an interest in words and a curiosity about their composition and history. The student will become familiar with those Greek and Latin roots which are clues to the meanings of hundreds of unknown or imperfectly understood English words. This course provides students wit han excellent technique for vocabulary building, especially in preparation for taking SAT and ACT tests.

Course Description:
Recommended for students who desire a good background for mythological references in literature. This class is designed to introduce students to the great myths of Greece and Rome, to aspects of myth-making, and to mythological references encountered in day-to-day reading. Students will study all major gods, goddesses, and heroes in depth. Students will read some original source material (in translation).

Latin I is an introduction to the fundamentals of the Latin language. Students develop skills in reading, writing, and speaking basic Latin through the study of vocabulary and sentence structure. English words derived from Latin are studied in conjunction with the Latin vocabulary. reading in Latin I deals with all aspects of the daily life and customs of Ancient Rome. Students also gain knowledge of ancient culture, history, and mythology, especially through the exploration of the many direct links into modern American customs and institutions.

Spanish IV is the most intensive level of study of Spanish, designed for students with a keen interest in developing their language skills. Spanish will be used almost exclusively by the students and the teacher. Emphasis is placed on expanding vocabulary, developing sophisticated grammatical structures, appreciating Hispanic literature, writing coherent compositions, and reaching a greater level of fluency in conversational Spanish.
